SSR Selfie l The Colossal of book Colour

I read 13 pages about the Colossal of book Colour. It was about the difference between the colours. The way we see and interpret colour is critical to understanding the world. Colours can carry meaning that we never consider. Objects that are identical in size, shape and texture can look very different if they are differently coloured.

First, I read the book  (The Colossal book of Colour) for 15 minutes.

Next, I made a new slide, made a picture of myself and typed down three main keys of information about the main topic and typed down my new three words with their meanings in my own words.

I really enjoyed this book because I learnt about all of the difference of the colours.

America's Cup

I learned about the America’s Cup. I worked with Fotu, Hector, Kahu and Dayne.

First, me and my group typed down the Main Ideas to identify the main ideas in the text. We need to type the who, what, when, where and why of each.

Next, we typed down 20 important words, 6 most important words and used the 6 important words to sum up the text in a few sentences.

Last, I evaluated the information in Main Ideas and Summarising. Evaluate means to form information and ideas.

These strategies can be helpful because summarising and evaluating can help us understand.

Visualisation - Highway Rat

Visualisation is creating pictures in your head. This helps understand what we read.

Highway Rat is about a Rat who is greedy and steals everyone's food. He learns a lesson and everyone lives happily.

My Visualisation is different to others because we all have different drawings.

We have different Visualisations because we use our imaginations.

AFL Training

Today we went on the field with the coach. The coach showed us how to make some skills. Some of them are the same as 2 weeks ago and something new.

First, we practised how handball passes by holding with the hand you write with. Then you need to make a dinner plate. After you need to do a pirate dance and aim it at someone.

Next, we practised how to kick the ball by holding the ball with the letter M. Then you need to drop the ball at your feet then aim it at someone.

After, the coach shows us a new skill called tip off or rock. Someone needs to throw the ball at the sky and there are two people who need to smack the ball on the ground.

Last, the coach shows us how to  tackle the tackle on their legs or head. But it is a different one. Two people need to stand up by using their knees. Then someone needs to hold the ball. After the other person needs to hug them really tight.

I enjoyed this activity because we learnt so many new skills.

Place Value and Saying Numbers

Place Value is a system that groups numbers based on their size.

The position of a digit determines its value. When we say numbers we group then within the same house. For example 15709 has fifteen thousands, seven hundreds and nine ones.

Understanding our base our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounce big numbers properly. It also allows us to identify numbers before and after.

Symphony Maths

I used an app called Symphony Maths. It makes our brains grow and makes us understand. There are many levels.

I did addition, subtraction, less and greater, the blocks . I finished level 1 and 2. It explained to us what to do and I needed to answer it. It was easy but I made some mistakes.

I need to practice on my less and greater.

I enjoyed playing symphony maths because it makes me understand and makes my brain grow.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greeting.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming and opening.

It is undertaken by the Tangata Whenua (local inhabitants). The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspect to the place. The Maunga (mountain ), Awa (river), and Iwi (tribe) are generally used.

Introducing Ingoa (name), Oku tipuna (ancestral place) and where you live is important for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or group the visitor/s that are being welcomed.

It is important to end with warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in the 2 groups being together.

Being respectful of the  land, the people and the purpose of a visit will ensure long lasting relationships and connections.

First I used a pencil and a book to write down the alphabets, numbers and the symbols.

Next I showed all the alphabets, numbers and symbols to Mr Wong and I need to practice some of the letters.

Lastly I made a new slide type down the information that I need to practice writing.

I wrote neatly, but I need to practice writing the letters D, P, J and K.

AFL Training

Today we went on the field with the coach Jack. We were in group A. We played 2 games with the coach and the teacher.

First the coach Jack showed us how to pass the ball by holding it and using our fist.

Next the coach Jack showed us how to kick the ball by holding it and aiming it with our feet.

After we played a game called octopus, there are three people who are the tiger and the other's are the octopus. The coach Jack needs to tell us what we are wearing and what we like. The person who is wearing and like them needs to run at the end of the line.

Then we need to be in 2 groups again. The one who is holding the ball is the one at the front and the other is at the back. We need to throw it at the teacher and the coach and get it back.

I enjoy the Octopus game because I like running around and being like a statue.

LS1 Learning Treaty

We learnt about the 3 Ps in the Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introduced the 3 Ps in the Treaty of Waitangi. They are Protection, Partnership and Participation.

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3 Ps in LS1. LS1 figured out the 3 Ps are all connected. After that we used our group ideas  and thought about how they connected me.

I chose these 3 statement because they will help me be successful with my learning in LS1. And I chose to work on the participation because I want to learn, understand and get smart.

Optical Illusion

I completed an Optical Illusion activity. An Optical Illusion is a thing that can make you confuse and trick you.

First, I searched an image on google and I found a bar with four bars but when you see at right there are three bars.

Next, I made a copy of the google drawing and inserted the images.

After, I used two arrows, one at the left and one at the right and I wrote down how many bars there are.

I like this activity because I want to make someone confused.

Cultural Art| A Sei or Tekiteki

I completed an activity. With the help of my mum who did the most of the work. I was going make an insect but I can't not find any ideas so me and my mum decided to make a sei or tekiteki so we can put it above our ear or our hair.

First, my mum and I searched a video of a sei and me and my mum were gonna make it a bit different.

Next, we collected materials outside, we took leaves, twigs and petals.

After, we connect two leaves together with the twigs, we connect the yellow leaves or orange leaves at the side of the leaves, we put the toothpick inside of the leaves and then we use the leaves to make it like a shoelace then we take off the tooth pick.

I like to do cultural art because I like to collect materials outside with my mum.

SSR Selfie| Maui I Te Ra

I read 24 pages about Maui I Te Ra by Peter Gossage.

It's about that Maui and his brother and his friends are going to hunt sunlight.

And at the end Maui's brother and his friend were doing chores and cooking food. Maui was laying down on a hammock and drinking a coconut juice.

I like it, because like how his brother and his friends are doing the chores and cooking food.

SSR Selfie| Ella Diaries

I read 10 pages about Ella Diaries by Meredith Costain.

The story was about that Ella are going camping with her classes and teacher Mr Appleby. It calls the Courage Camp. She were sleeping in a tiny cabin with Zoe, Prinny and Peach and she were on a boat calls a kayak and then the annoying girls name Prinny and Peach push them over by using a paddle. She said it was a worst camping ever.

I enjoy it because it's fun and i like how she makes an diary.
