Olympics Fact Find - Emma Twigg

I completed  a can-do activity called Fact Find. I needed to find some research about a person. The person I chose to do is Emma Twigg.

First, I typed down the introduction about Emma Twigg. My introduction was: Emma Twigg is a New Zealand rower. She was born on 1 March 1987. A single sculler, she was the 2014 world champion and won gold in her fourth Olympics in Tokyo in July 2021. Previous Olympic appearances were in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Next, I wrote down 5 facts about Emma Twigg. For an example: Following her U23 world championship title in 2007, Twigg won the Emerging Talent Award at the Halberg Awards.

Afterwards, I needed to find a picture of Emma Twigg from Google and attribute them.

Last, I put the link of the website where I got my information from.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt a lot of stuff about Olympians.

Prototype

My company, Design Company made a prototype of a party popper.

In the beginning, we tested the rubberband. My Design Company and I tested some different materials to make a party popper prototype. For an example, we chose the medium size of rubber band instead of the long rubber band. We changed some ideas to make the party popper work.

Next my group and I tested the weight. For an example, we chose the nut to see how hard or loud it hit the cup. We tested some other parts.

To finish up My group and I assembled all the parts of the prototype. When we assembled all the parts of the prototype. We put the fillings in and see how far it will be able to explode the fillings out.

I learned a lot about making a party popper, prototype, and modeling.  

Party Popper

We plan how to make a Party Popper.

First, we looked at an example of Mr Wong's plan design. His design was about the party popper. We made a plan on how to make a party popper..

Next, we listed the part we need for the party popper. Our name of our market was Design Company, the parts we needed are paper, cup, fillings, stick and rubber band.

Then, we updated the design. It was about the changes. My group changed the cup into a paper cup,  changed the rubberband to a bigger and stronger rubberband, and we changed the fillings to pompoms.

Last, we typed down the rationale. We needed to type down the reason why we changed the design for an updated design.

I enjoyed this activity because I really want to make a party popper.

The Three Similar Simple Machines

Did you know the three simple machines are used long time ago? The three similar simple machines are wheel and axle, pulley, and screw. Simple machines can help people do work easier.

Simple Machines

We found six simple machines in real life.

These are the six simples machines:

4. Wheels and Axel

5. Screw

6. Inclined Plane

Inquiry l Simple Machine

Simple machines are use for basic mechanical devices for applying a force to a machine with moving heavy metarials to work easier.

Kapa Haka and Dragon Dance l Inquiry

 I completed a Inquiry activity. It was about the dances.

First, I typed down the similarities for the Kapa Haka and the Dragon Dance. I typed down 7 similarities for the Kapa Haka and the Dragon Dance.

Next, I typed down the differences for the Kapa Haka and the Dragon Dance. I typed down 6 differences for the Kapa Haka and 8 differences for the Dragon Dance.

Last, I made a google map and typed down the facts about the Kapa Haka and the Dragon Dance. And I add the images so people knows what am I talking about.

I really enjoyed this activity because I like to look some culture dances.

LS1 Learning Treaty

 We learnt about the 3 Ps in the Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introduced the 3 Ps in the Treaty of Waitangi. They are Protection, Partnership and Participation. 

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3 Ps in LS1. LS1 figured out the 3 Ps are all connected. After that we used our group ideas  and thought about how they connected me.

I chose these 3 statement because they will help me be successful with my learning in LS1. And I chose to work on the participation because I want to learn, understand and get smart.
